Alpha Challenge

An overview of the Alpha Challenge. (2:47)

The Alpha Challenge is one of the world’s premier investment pitch competitions. Hosted annually by UNC Kenan-Flagler, this competition attracts teams of business students from leading global business schools to pitch their investment recommendation to an acclaimed group of buy-side investment professionals. The two-day event brings together over 50 top investment management firms for interviewing, networking and the competition.

On December 4 – December 6, 2024, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School will host the premier MBA event in the investment management industry for the 20th consecutive year.  The Alpha Challenge pits three-person teams from top MBA programs against one another in a competition focused on long equity and credit investment strategies. An internal competition determines the equity and credit teams representing UNC Kenan-Flagler. Each team is required to have at least two first-year students and one female student.

UNC Kenan-Flagler has a great track record at the event, winning in 2017, taking second and third positions in 2020, and finishing second in both equities and credit in 2021. In 2022, UNC Kenan-Flagler students had their most successful year taking first place in both equities and credit.  In 2023, UNC Kenan-Flagler placed second and third in credit.
